The Hands That Till Lands Pt. 3: Learning to Let Go

We asked who we’re depending on. We declared where our help comes from. But here’s where most of us get stuck: we can make the declaration and still find ourselves gripping what we said we surrendered. Letting go is where the declaration gets tested — and today isn’t trust in theory. It’s what it actually looks like to open the hands.

   Commit. Trust. Rest. Wait.

   Letting go is not the absence of effort. It’s not sitting back while you wait on uSoNINI NaNINI to move. It’s an active, intentional decision to release what you’ve been holding — the outcome, the timeline, the need to control — and place it in the hands of the Most High. That’s not weakness; that’s the hardest thing most of us will ever do. And this isn’t a passive posture — it’s a sequence, and every step of it requires you to loosen your grip on something: your plans, your timeline, your idea of how it’s supposed to look.

   Commit thy way unto uSoNINI NaNINI; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in uSoNINI NaNINI, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

   Not empty hands — open ones.

   We don’t mind trusting uSoNINI NaNINI in a general sense. But we still want to be the ones who figure out the path. We plan, we strategize, we map every route — and then we ask Him to increase what we’ve already decided. Most of us have Proverbs 16:3 backwards: we try to establish our thoughts first and commit the finished plan to Him. But the establishment comes after the commitment; the clarity comes after the surrender. Verse 9 doesn’t say stop planning. The heart still devises. But the LORD directs the steps. He isn’t asking us to stop using the wisdom He gave us — He’s asking us to hold it loosely enough that He can redirect it.

   There’s a difference between making a plan and trusting your plan.

   Sow anyway.

   This is where the series comes full circle. We started with the tiller who plants and tends but has never made it rain. Now we see the tiller who never plants at all — too busy watching the conditions. The person waiting for perfect conditions never sows, and the person who never sows never reaps. That’s a word for everyone holding back because the timing doesn’t feel right, because you need just a little more certainty before you move. You don’t know the works of uSoNINI NaNINI. You can’t see what He’s doing beneath the surface any more than you can see how life forms in the womb. So sow anyway. Move in the morning, and in the evening don’t withhold your hand — because the outcome was never yours to control. It was always His to bring forth.

   In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
