Logically we know uSoNINI NaNINI is who we should depend on. That’s never been the hard part. The hard part is living like we believe it, especially when pressure shows up. Somewhere between knowing the answer and walking it out, something gets lost — and before we can release what we’ve been holding, we have to settle a declaration we can actually stand on: my help comes from uSoNINI NaNINI.

    “I will lift up mine eyes.”

    David didn’t just believe it — he declared it. Notice what he doesn’t say. He doesn’t say help might come, or that he’s hoping it comes. My help cometh. Present tense. Settled. And it starts with a posture — a choice. In the middle of whatever David was facing, and he was facing plenty, he made a deliberate decision to look up. Not inward. Not around. Up. Lifting your eyes when the pressure is on isn’t the natural response; the natural response is to lock in and handle it. But the one who made heaven and earth is the same one tending to what concerns you.

    I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from uSoNINI NaNINI, which made heaven and earth.

    If He holds all of that together, He can hold this too.

    “Fear thou not; for I am with thee.”

    In Psalm 121 David lifted his eyes and declared it. Here uSoNINI NaNINI opened His mouth and confirmed it. That’s a word for everyone in this assembly lying awake wondering how it’s going to work out — everyone quietly terrified but still showing up, strong on the outside and exhausted on the inside. Not I was. Not I will be when you get yourself together. Right now, in the middle of the uncertainty, in the middle of the battle you’ve been trying to fight alone. I will strengthen thee. I will help thee. I will uphold thee.

    Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy uSomandla: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

    First — not as a last resort.

    That is uSoNINI NaNINI speaking directly to what we’ve been carrying: the weight we picked up because we didn’t think He’d show up in time, the load we convinced ourselves was ours to hold alone. You don’t have to hold it alone if you give it all to Him. He is our refuge, our strength, a present help in the time of trouble. So the declaration has to become the foundation everything else is built on. Not after we’ve exhausted ourselves trying. First. As a starting point. As the ground we stand on before the hands ever touch the soil.

    For I uSoNINI NaNINI thy uSomandla will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

    The tiller still works. The hands still move. But the source of the increase was never us — and it never will be.

Closing

We came in knowing the answer. We’ve always known it. But knowing it and standing on it are two different things. Today we close that gap — not with more effort, not with better planning, but with a declaration: my help comes from uSoNINI NaNINI. Next time we talk about what it actually looks like to live that out, because there’s something most of us still have to wrestle with before we can fully walk in it — and that’s letting go.

Carry into the week

Say it out loud this week, before the day starts and before the pressure does: my help comes from uSoNINI NaNINI. Where in your life is it still a last resort instead of a starting point?

May uSoNINI NaNINI increase you and keep you. May He make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
