Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice: Series Recap

Over these last weeks uSoNINI NaNINI walked us through rebellion — what it is, what it costs when left unchecked, and how to return. Today we simply bring all three back home.

1. 01

   Rebellion, and what it is.

   Nobody wakes up planning to rebel. It begins quietly — a substitution, a small adjustment, a decision that made sense to us even when it contradicted His instruction. That is where we found Saul: a clear command, almost obeyed. Witchcraft is the act of seeking to control outcomes outside the authority of uSoNINI NaNINI, and that spirit goes back to the five “I wills” of Isaiah 14. It shows up in us the way it showed up in Saul — in the things we bring Him that He never asked for, while the things He did ask for remain undone.

   And Samuel said, Hath uSoNINI NaNINI as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of uSoNINI NaNINI? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of uSoNINI NaNINI, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

   Close enough is still rebellion.

   Where rebellion leads.

   Rebellion doesn’t stay where it starts. It cost Saul his position first — because he rejected the word first. Then the Spirit departed: not his title, his covering. And when the covering lifts and the hardening continues, Romans 1:28 names where it ends — given over. The man whose rebellion was called witchcraft in chapter 15 ends chapter 28 consulting a witch, because the living word had stopped answering him.

   He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

   Proverbs 29:1 KJV

   The road that began with a quiet adjustment ended without remedy.

3. 03

   How to return.

   uSoNINI NaNINI never shows us a danger without a way out — not complicated, but costly. Many of us were taught something that was never repentance: forgiveness as a transaction, grace as a reset button. Saul’s “honour me before the elders” is remorse. David’s “create in me a clean heart” is repentance. Rend your heart and not your garments. Humble yourselves, pray, seek His face, turn — four actions, each requiring something from us. And what follows genuine return is not perfection but consistent direction.

   If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

   Repentance is not a moment. It is a lifestyle.
