Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice Pt. 3: How To Return

Most of us have known we needed to turn — not as a distant spiritual concept, but in a real, this-isn’t-working way. The knowing isn’t usually the hard part. The turning is. Today: what returning to uSoNINI NaNINI actually requires, and what the life on the other side of it looks like.

1. 01

   Remorse doesn’t mean repentance.

   Many of us were taught that forgiveness was simple: “Father forgive me” settled the account, and “only the Most High can judge me” answered anyone who asked about how we lived. Saul says the words too — I have sinned — and then, after the full weight of the verdict has landed, his next words are honour me before the elders. That is remorse. It acknowledges the wrong but doesn’t turn from it; it wants the consequence removed while everything else stays in place. And we have been treating grace like a reset button — sin, ask, repeat — mistaking His patience for permission. The word closes that loophole directly.

   What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? uSomandla forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

   What genuine repentance looks like.

   David fell too, and not small. Both men said the same three words. But look at what followed from David: not his reputation protected, not honour before anyone, not the consequence quietly removed — create in me a clean heart; cast me not away from thy presence. Remorse is concerned with what it looks like on the outside; repentance with what is happening on the inside. Rend your heart, and not your garments. And 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives the path: humble themselves, pray, seek His face, turn from their wicked ways — four actions, not four phrases, each one building on the last.

   Therefore also now, saith uSoNINI NaNINI, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto uSoNINI NaNINI your uSomandla: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

   He will abundantly pardon. He is not standing at the door waiting to turn us away. He is waiting for us to actually come back — all the way back.

3. 03

   Walk righteously.

   Genuine repentance doesn’t just clear the past; it changes the direction, and that direction has a name. Walking righteously does not mean walking perfectly. It means your consistent direction is toward uSoNINI NaNINI and not away from Him; that when you fall, you don’t stay there; that the pattern of your life is no longer substitution and adjustment but surrender and obedience. Return and obey move together — and when both are present, He turns your captivity and restores what rebellion cost. For why will ye die? That is not a rebuke. That is a Father asking why His children keep choosing the hard way when the door home is right in front of them.

   For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith uSoNINI NaNINI: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

   Walking righteously doesn’t begin at some future point when everything feels right. It begins with the next decision. Choose to start.
