When All Else Fails Pt. 2

When was the last time you truly surrendered yourself to the Most High — completely put your life in His hands? Was it by choice, or because you had no other choice? We are very good at making plans: the job, the car, the relationship, and how we’re going to get them. At what point did we include the Most High, if at all? It’s His will for our lives that matters, and to tell the difference between what we want and what He wants for us, we have to surrender.

1. 01

   Remove yourself from your own will.

   Surrender is not just giving ourselves away to Him. It is giving up our rights to ourselves and placing them in His hands — telling uSoNINI NaNINI that despite what we want, despite what we think we need, we believe what He has in store is a thousand times better than anything we imagined. That’s not to say what we want is wrong. I can attest to this from my own long season without work: wanting to provide for my household isn’t wrong, and through all of it the Most High kept a roof over our heads and food on our table. But at a certain point one must ask, what is it that the Most High wants for me? Answering that requires relinquishing the rights I think I have to my own will.

   For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith uSoNINI NaNINI. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

2. 02

   Align yourself with His will.

   Alignment means letting the Most High shape our minds and our desires by submitting fully to Him — presenting ourselves a living sacrifice, not conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of the mind. It takes the same effort as obedience; in truth the two go hand in hand. Obedience is like building a muscle. It is more than saying words or making promises without action. You have to make a real, conscious effort to change — how you walk, how you talk, who you keep company with, how you think, what you say. It is repetitious habit-building.

   And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of uSomandla.

   Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.

3. 03

   Live out your life according to His will.

   Surrender is a daily application. As His children this should be second nature, but because of our circumstance and the failures of our ancestors, we are at the pivotal moment of actively returning to His covenant and living this lifestyle in true practice. We know that we know Him if we keep His commandments; he that says he knows Him and keeps them not is a liar. What does He require? To do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your uSomandla.

   And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
