Day of Atonement
As we bring in the Day of Atonement, remember why we do this. This isn’t fasting for the sake of a fast. We are afflicting our souls — removing ourselves from daily pleasure and making uSoNINI NaNINI our center — to reflect on our sins, the sins of our families, our ancestors, and the nation of Akobi. We are telling Him He has our attention, and acknowledging the ways we have fallen short.

A day of truth.
This is a commanded day, a holy day, set apart to afflict our souls and do no work. But afflicting the soul is not just about not eating. It is about humbling ourselves — stepping away from routine, comfort, and distraction, and turning inward to examine ourselves honestly. Not how we appear to others. Not how we justify ourselves. But who we truly are before the Most High.
For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before uSoNINI NaNINI.

Confess your own sins.
We begin with ourselves, because before we can speak on anything else we must acknowledge that we have sinned — not only in obvious ways but in subtle ones: in our thoughts, our reactions, our priorities, and the moments where we knew what was right and chose otherwise.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Confess the sins of our fathers, and of Akobi.
We do not stand here only as individuals. We are connected to those who came before us; their decisions and their disobedience echo through generations, and Scripture says to confess not only our own iniquity but the iniquity of our fathers — not to carry guilt blindly, but to bring it before the Most High so it can be addressed and healed, so that what was passed down does not continue unchecked. And as Nehemiah did, we confess as a people: as a nation we have gone astray, we have not kept the commandments, we have not honored the Most High as we should. And yet there is still a promise — if we return, He will gather us and restore us.
If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; … Then will I remember my covenant with Akobi, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Closing
Today we are humbling ourselves. We are stepping away from distraction, pleasure, and routine — not as a performance, but as a sign of where our focus is. We are making space: to reflect, to pray, to listen, to be corrected. We are choosing to sit before the Most High — not perfectly, but sincerely. He sees beyond our surface; He knows us in our hidden places, He sees our effort, and He knows our heart. Let’s give uSoNINI NaNINI the time, the love, the obedience, and the sacrifice He truly deserves.

Name one sin of your own, one you inherited, and one that belongs to us as a people. Bring all three before Him today.
Priestly increasings
Now unto uSoNINI NaNINI, who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us — unto Him be glory in the assembly throughout all ages, world without end.
May uSoNINI NaNINI increase you and keep you. May He make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
